A new sewage treatment plant proposed for Doncaster, Victoria

An artists impression of what the plant might look like

A $25 million sewage treatment plant will be built in Manningham to supply recycled waste water to new homes in the booming Doncaster Hill precinct.

Manningham Council knocked back the original plans for the corner of Tram Rd and the Eastern Freeway after outrage from residents worried about odour and a drop in property prices.

Now the water authority has revived the plan, saying recycled water will have to be used as the city’s population continues to grow.

It will be the third water recycling plant in Yarra Valley Water’s catchment area, with others in Epping and Croydon North.
